About NUCB Business School

The Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) was established in 1935 by Dr. Yuichi Kurimoto, the first international student to graduate from Canada's prestigious University of Alberta. Returning to Japan with a first-hand appreciation for the internationalization of higher education and the value of studying abroad, NUCB was founded under a 'Frontier Spirit' that reflected the times and the future potential of a progressive, global mindset nearly 100 years ago.

The mission of the NUCB Business School, guided by this same 'Frontier Spirit', is to develop leaders and entrepreneurs with a global perspective, advanced management skills, and the highest ethical standards that will equip them to succeed in bridging the gap between New Asia and the rest of the world.

In order to achieve this mission, NUCB has been active in achieving top international accreditation and partnerships in leading higher education organizations including the Partnership in International Management (PIM) Network, European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), and the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS). NUCB Business School became the first and only triple-crown accredited school (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS) in Japan in 2021.

The English MBA & MIM  are characterized by the following features;

  • One-year and Two-year Masters degree programs offered (MBA & MIM)
  • 36+ courses conducted entirely in English

  • 2 student residences (NUCB Global Center & Chiyoda Dormitory)
  • 170+ global partner institutions from 59 countries

Student life

Based in downtown Nagoya and benefiting from the Greater Nagoya Initiative; a joint organization between governments, industries, universities, and businesses both local and foreign aiming to build upon Nagoya's reputation as the 'manufacturing backbone.' Nagoya is located in the central region of Japan which provides great access to other parts of the country, including Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. Scheduled for completion in the next 10 years, Japan's first Maglev Bullet Train will connect Nagoya with Tokyo in only 40 minutes (currently the fastest route takes approximately 100 minutes). From Nagoya Station, the NUCB Business School campus is only 15 minutes on foot and less than five minutes by subway.

International students benefit from a variety of cultural enrichment activities and company visits organized by the School and amongst students themselves. The centrality of the Greater Nagoya region makes it a prime location for newcomers to Japan wishing to explore the various unique cities that contribute to a rich national culture.
The school rewards students undertaking internships with academic credit toward degree program completion. Career guidance is available for those seeking consultation regarding finding work in Japan, resume guidance, and interview practice. The office also announces job opportunities for international students via the student bulletin board when such information is received.

FAQs

We require submission of either a GMAT or GRE score for MBA admission consideration. Waiver options are available for those with 8+ years of relevant work experience, but it should be noted that (1) no minimum score requirement is enforced, and the admissions committee reviews applications holistically--meaning the score alone is insufficient for determining the fitness of an applicant, and (2) our most generous scholarship is only awarded to those who submit GMAT or GRE scores at the application stage.
